Horticulture Training
Who participates?
Our Garden Centres in Strabane and at Ashbrook in Londonderry offer training opportunities for clients with learning disabilities. Clients on "back to work" programmes also participate in horticulture training at these centres. Where possible, disabled and non-disabled groups are given the opportunity to train together within a work setting. This commitment to integration within society for those with disabilities is one of the core principles behind the New Horizons Partnership.
Where does training take place?

Workshops for local community groups
We have now extended our services to provide local community groups with the opportunity to avail of training from our staff in any aspect of horticulture that appeals to you. For example, you might like your members to take part in a training session that teaches them all about:
- How to design and plant a hanging basket
- How to create the perfect window box or tub
- How to care for your summer bedding in pots
- The essentials of planting for the season
The format of the session is very practical. We can host the workshop at our Garden Centre, in which case you are encouraged to bring along your baskets, tubs and window boxes so that you can get hands-on experience of planting your own display. Alternatively, a session hosted at your venue will be a demonstration of techniques.
If you are interested in having our staff deliver a workshop to your members, simply call us on (028) 7188 3114.
